If you’re an aspiring cosmetologist or esthetician, a good education can be an immense asset in helping you to build a solid foundation of skills necessary to make it in the competitive beauty business. There’s a myriad of choices available in every corner of the nation, but if you’re interested in launching a career in Texas, MJ’s Academy may be the perfect place for you.
The Campus
MJ’s Academy is located at Southwest Center Mall, 3662 West Camp Wisdom Road Suite 2016, Dallas, Texas.
The academy moved from its former location into these new digs in early 2013.
Watch a virtual tour of the new office here.
Proudly a private family-owned company, the halls of the academy are lined with family photos, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The Programs
The academy, which is accredited by the NACCAS, offers training in various entry-level cosmetology and esthetics specialties. Programs include a complete cosmetology program, a manicure program, hair weaving, and hair braiding. MJ’s also offers a course for professionals looking to become certified instructors.
MJ’s offers day classes Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as well as evening classes Monday through Thursday from 5-9 p.m.
The freshman program typically takes about 8-10 weeks. The senior classroom is set up salon-style so students can get hands-on experience.
Students participate in local and regional hair and trade shows, which provide an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent and network with fellow budding professionals as well as those who are established in the field.
During senior year, students also have the chance to further demonstrate their talents and participate in network and portfolio features during the school’s Salon Fairs.
What Makes MJ’s Special?
Margaret “MJ” Jackson founded her namesake beauty academy in 1998, along with her husband Stan and the support of her five daughters, after a long career in the industry.
Beauty is in the Jackson family blood. MJ herself was born of a lineage of beauty professionals spanning three generations, and several members of the Jackson family work in top positions at her company, including president, vice president and admissions officer.
MJ’s personal and caring atmosphere adds to the bedrock of exemplary program offerings to provide students with a great chance to succeed. The success of MJ’s philosophy shows in its roster of grads, including Myron and Courtnee Huff of Weavemaster Inc., whose company was featured in Millionaire Magazine, and Anetris Henderson, celebrity stylist and owner of Anetris Image Studio.
